Gina Franco's poetry to be part of composer Joshua Keeling's "Connection Series: Stories from Stone" concert

During our 20th Anniversary event at the University of Arizona's Poetry Center we learned some wonderful news. Composer Joshua Keeling will feature poet Gina Franco's poetry for the University of Arizona's Connection Series "Stories from Stone" concert. We've copied the event information here:

Sunday, April 21, 2024 - 1:00p.m. to 2:30p.m.

in Crowder Hall at University of Arizona- Tucson

UA University Singers and University Community Chorus are partnering with Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum for an immersive concert experience. UCC has commissioned a multi-movement work from Tucson-based composer, Joshua Keeling. This work for mixed-voice and percussion ensemble shares the personal stories of mine workers through poetry of Gina Franco and Beverly G. De Mario.

University Singers will present music connected to gems and minerals commonly found in Arizona: wulfenite, silver, malachite, gold, peridot, and turquoise. Speakers from the museum will share facts, stories, and beautiful photos throughout the concert. Admission is $10.

For those outside of Tucson, it will be streamed live: music.arizona.edu/live.

If you missed our 20th Anniversary reading we encourage you to watch the video here. The reading featured Gina Franco, Edgar Garcia and Sheila Maldonado.
