As the Poetry Editor at The Los Angeles Review (LAR), my goal is to make space for a diverse range of voices, both culturally and aesthetically diverse. Alongside my co-editor Lawrence DiStefano, I have been working on making LAR a place for outstanding poetry, continuing the work that our predecessors Blas Falconer and Vandana Khanna did for many years. My first big project as Poetry Editor at LAR was Latinx Digital Poetics: An Electronic Literature Folio, published throughout May 2023, supported by Letras Latinas and The Poetry Foundation. Digital poetry is a form of electronic literature (E-Lit), a genre of literature made of works that are designed to be experienced on a computer or digital device. The folio features work by Tina Escaja, Leonardo Flores, Anthony Cody, Loss Pequeño Glazier, Urayoán Noel, and J. Michael Martinez. To celebrate the folio, we organized an event with Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, CA on June 3rd, 2023. LAR E-Lit folio participants Anthony Cody and J. Michael Martinez will present their digital poems and also give a reading from their latest collections. We also invited local Los Angeles poets Vickie Vértiz and heidi andrea restrepo rhodes to read. The evening's guest of honor, former L.A. Poet Laureate Luis J. Rodriguez, will headline the event with a response to the E-Lit folio.
